Oiler was Nation-Wide my friends. Smashed the streets and trains. Your letters will be missed in the graffiti community, a true component in the scene. Condolences to his Family and Friends.

Knew Bernie since I was 16. We were friends, and then we were enemies, fought many times over the years, and then we sorta squashed it and then we was straight. Last time I saw him he gave me a marker and we completely smashed some night club in the district with black ink and acid....Never saw him again. That was many years ago. The TSC's will remember Oil as a fighter and a writer. Classic handstyler, Westchester comedian, constant motivator, and one of our strongest competitors and worst enemies. Respect. Condolences to friends, fam, and crew.----Quake

Oiler...a prolific artist in the street game of graff. Literally had the game on lock in the golden years of Miami's bombing scene in the 90's.

This dude was an inspiration...seeing his UNMISTAKEABLE "OIL" throw-up here in Miami from heavens to highways to local street walls to light poles...it didn't matter. He was a true bomber...no holds bar type shit...and his style reflected that. A true originator in Miami to the meaning behind "trademark" bombing.

His throw-up is ageless and un-matchable....as is his contribution to the game as one of the best of the best in my book.

Rest In Peace "oiler"...another legend in the game. Damn...

Bernie, when I met him I asked him what he wrote and he said "Deez" I said "I never heard of you" he said "Deez Nuts!"
he was alright.

cyme said...

The more I think about it, the worse it gets. I wish that he was just an enemy and someone I could easily forget, but he's not.He was a part of my life and I can remember the good and bad times.

I met Oils when I was 14 or 15, before the beef was an issue. We would chill, drink quarts, bomb shit and go to clubs(Jessie's & Union bar) for years.I would never have to call him, I would just head to the beach, I knew he would be there.

Bernie had a BIG personality, you loved or hated him, most of the time both.He would bomb and fight without fear and more often then not, I would find myself saying "Bernie, what the hell are you doing?".That was Oils in a word, WILD.

Even after the beef started we always kept it cool,we just kind of pretended it was not there. We would call each other and start yelling about someone or something and before you knew it we would be laughing about it.We put aside all the MSG/UB/FE vs BSK/FS/EP/STV stuff and just chilled as homies.

No one can deny that he is an will always be a true graffiti legend. His throwups pieces and hand styles were distinctly his. He crushed not just Miami but the whole state of Florida and some say the nation with his freights.

He was and will always be a MIAMI GRAFFITI LEGEND and most important a friend.

Rest In Paradise homie..CYME.aka.Jimmy V

It's really not a question of if, the beef will eventually get squashed, it's just a matter of how soon. I'm not affiliated with msg/their crews or ep and their crews, but I have been around long enough to know the history behind it all. You guys have a rough past over the dumbest stuff, you guys could link up with them, (I'm not pushing holding hands and kissing eachother), but just crush as a unity instead of crushing eachother.

Miami said...

this calls for unity between crews, in memory of oil. squash the beef. set an example for the young'n's. collaborate. rock the streets.

rest in peace oil.

Horrible news, Bernie was always a good person, and friend to me. We started writing around the same time, and years later i always gave him props for staying up, and gaining fame far outside of miami, then florida, and the US.

Its a shame hes gone, his carrer as a tattoo artist was just building speed and he was already becoming dope.

hope your at rest,
i'll miss this homie

When I got the call Sunday morning, I don't really think it set in for a couple of days. Like Jimmy said the more I think about it, the worse I feel. Bernie told me once "I knew you before you were on MSG" and yesterday I was thinking about that. How all our lives were restricted from one another. Usually, he was on the other side of the fence but when we'd see each other, it was chill. That laugh. If you've heard it you would never forget it. Bernie embodied everything that was true to this craft and when you meet someone like that, you don't forget them.
He wronged me many times and after each of them, we were still cool. I had asked him one night what he thought of my shit, to which he replied "I like it. I like your letters". Unbiased praise from a real respected writer in the game. For what its worth to whomever reads this, I will never forget.

Seriously...after all of this that I have read...it brings one question to MY mind.

I ask to all you writers...the nighas that love the game and have so much respect for it...from minimal level to superb skills...we all know this game is a harsh one because it is MORE than a game. We all know how "OIL" separated LIFE and GRAFF, keeping friendships that were true distant from the feuding graff war...and not letting the negative have effect on the positive(from what I have seen you fellas express). We know that OIL kept it going, never fed into "we are the world" type of thing, simply because he believed in the essence of GRAFFITI. War is war...beef is beef...in the graff game we know what that means, and OIL showed us that and showed how far it can go and how long one can hold on to that beef.

And the question I have is...if OIL was in front of you...with no threat of his life being taken...BUT you ask him if his LIFE depended on it, would the beef between the crews be done for. Would you rather give your life and end you life with this beef ongoing, or would you, OIL, finally put the beef aside so you live one more day to see the best writers in MIAMI GRAFFITI history rock a wall the way it should be-alongside one another...?

This question goes out to all the nighas that "personally" knew OIL(I never met Bernie-but I was familiar with OILS work)...from both sides of the track. Mysteriously this passing of OIL has had a real effect on the world we love so much. Miami is so big...but then again so small because someway somehow, we all know each other by some means. As a huge fan of the graff...I ask that you fellas take this into perspective.

Much respect to all the writers who keep it moving, without letting life obstacles and circumstances slow you down or bring you to a complete halt.

Once again...RIP to a Miami great...OILER...or as most of you know him....BERNIE. You and your work will be missed.

Peace.

fist and foremost, rest in power OILER.

i never had the chance to meet him, but i did see and respect his work growing up as a kid. regardless of not knowing him,and despite the drama and beef, im sure he was a great dude. from what i see on this blog, he obviously had an effect on people.

on another note, being that im new to MSG, i understand i have close to no say. but in my opinion this beef is far beyond immature, and needs to stop. it started over some petty shit. the political aspect to graffiti is ridiculous.

we all started writing because it was something we loved. we shouldnt need to worry about "who we can and can not BUMP" on bombingscience. sometimes we need to set aside our egos and give credit where credit is earned.

face it. both sides have outstanding writers and artist. we all share the same passion for graffiti... theres no reason why we shouldnt be able to recognize that.

OILS was a dope writer, he had great foundation and structure, along with cleanliness. much respect goes out to both him and his crews.

much respect to him and his work. never got to meet him eather, wish i would have had the oportunity.... but its a reminder to all of us that life is short and we should go out and enjoy it as much as posible and fuck everything up while we can, and its the perfect time to concider truce in my opinion, we are losing to the buff, we arent as good a scene because we fight each other and that energy could be going into beeting the buff and making miami known, but its just my stupid opinion....

my condolences to the fam,crew,friends
